Whenever
an intravenous contrast (Isovue 250) material is used, the patient must
always have Creatinine and BUN lab tests run and fast for 3-4 hours
from solid floods (may take liquids and prescription medications). When

or are currently on Glucophage or Metformin, please call your doctor

| MRI
is an exam/test done with a magnet and radio frequency. It is a simple,
painless procedure. Because of the magnetic field, you will need to remove
jewelry in the area we are scanning; also, your watch and hearing aids,
and all bobby pins. You won’t be allowed to wear any thing metallic in
the area being scanned. It is suggested that you might consider wearing
something with no buttons (no buttons made from metal) or zippers (something
similar to a jogging suit). Otherwise, we will need to ask you to change
into one of our gowns and robes. |
|
|
No
pace makers or brain aneurysm clips. |
|
|
Surgical
stainless pins, screws, clips, etc., are okay but we need to know
where they are located. |
|
|
You
may have someone in the room with you but they will have to remove
metals also. |
|
|
You
must lock up your purses or wallets as the magnet will erase credit
cards or any cards with a magnetic strip. A lock box will be provided
for you. |
|
|
The
exam is very noisy so you will be given earplugs or headphones, so if
you have a favorite CD, please bring it.
We
can always hear and see you and will talk to you periodically throughout
the test.
Each
exam takes at least 30 minutes in the scanner and sometimes one
hour, so plan on being at the facility 1 to 1-1/2 hours.
If
you take medication for pain, please take it as you normally do or bring
it with you as you will need to remain perfectly motionless for up to
10 minutes at a time.
If
you know you are claustrophobic, please get medication from your doctor
prior to your appointment and bring someone to drive you.
Bring
prescription and relevant studies.
